Remembering and Honoring our Troops...

November 11, 2013.

Toronto & Portsmouth: Whether you're in Canada or the United States, today is a day of solomn remembrance of those brave men and women who have served, and continue to serve, our countries.   Canadians know this day as "Remembrance Day" and don poppies and have their school children recite "In Flanders Fields" by Canadian Lt. Colonel John McCrae;  Americans know it as "Veterans Day" and don yellow ribbons and the flag.    It is not a day to simply remember those who gave their lives in the line of duty, nor simply to celebrate the end of the "Great War" on the 11th of November 1981 at 11:00 GMT - to which reference is made - but to celebrate the ongoing sacrifice made by troops and their families to this day both at home and abroad in service of their countries.

While much is often made by detractors of US/Canadian relations the simple fact is that the two countries have been, and will always be, inseparably tied and their interests, likewise, related.  While Canadian and American politicians may disagree and, on occasion, feud over various issues, our two militaries have a long history of cooperation and fraternity.

This firm, with a foot in each country, has been honored to represent military families from both the United States and Canada (as well as the growing number of Canadian/American military families) for over six years in a variety of matters including immigration and corporate/small-business assistance.  We are particularly proud of our work with the growing community of small-businesses founded by returning troops who are driving innovation and economic recovery.

We take this moment to thank all military families, past and present, for their sacrifice and service.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

-- Lt. Col. John McCrae, MD.  May 3, 1915
